This collaborative art project with the 6th grade students focused on the theme of Community Garden. Students worked with four visiting artists during a three-day residency in November & December 2005. Their creative process involved the study of garden plant and insect forms as inspiration for design and pattern development for each individual stick painting. Students also studied color theory principles, including color temperature, hue and value. The students experimented with warm and cool colors, and light and dark colors to explore how contrast is an important and creative tool. Students reflected on the similarities between an outdoor community garden and the creation of a collaborative garden art project.
