There are three second grade homeroom teachers, Stephanie Waite-Tranberg, Mary Stefansky and Tony Ducklow. English Language Learner teacher, Irina Safyan and content coach, Judy Mitzuk also work with your child in second grade.
In the morning we begin our school day with morning meeting, mathematics, reader’s workshop and writer's workshop. At 11:35 we are off to lunch, and then out for recess until 12:25.
In the afternoon, second graders work with our BCE specialist teachers: Science with Mary Romoser, Technology with Kathy Ames, Music with Shirley Van Story, Physical Education with Scott Richards, Reader's Theatre with Sandy Terry and Art with Christine Mulligan. In second grade the students visit the Como Planetarium and frequently take nature walks in and around the nearby Battle Creek woods.
Each year we look forward to a trip to the Children's Museum to study insects and to the school district's planetarium at Como Elementary School. Other field trips we often plan are to Mill City Museum, Lee and Rose Warner Nature Center and Valley Branch Nature Center. We are planning a very special drama/music performance to be held at the December Awards Assembly.
