Shannon Roney, Autism Teacher
I have been at BCE for 4 years. I have been with district for 8 years. Over the past 8 years I have learned a lot about Autism and teaching! I have been fortunate to meet some wonderful people along my way. I have worked with students with a broad range of abilities. I enjoy learning new things with my students. I feel that every gain made is something to be celebrated! Currently, I have students who spend some time in the general education setting and some time in the special education setting. We are working on reading skills, math skills, writing skills, and learning to get a long with others and build relationships. Being a teacher has brought me some wonderful memories.I have participated in field trips to Eagle Bluff Outdoor Education Center and Camp Confidence in Brainerd, Minnesota. Taking students on an overnight field trip is a lot of fun and a lot of work! It is great to see kids outside the classroom setting! We have been to a Saints game, to the Science Museum, to the Children's Museum, the grocery store, the apple orchard, swimming, and much more! I believe that we never stop learning and that each day brings another lesson. I look forward to all the wonderful things I have yet to learn!

In my classroom, I strive to teach children how to use their unique gifts.  Each child has strengths that are special to them.  I believe that children will learn more effectively when you help them use their strengths in their school work.  I try to challenge each of my students to work to their potential.  Every child has a different learning style and a different frustration level.  I try to build relationships with my students to foster an environment where it is okay to make a mistake and ask for help.  I want my students to love learning!
