Hello and welcome to our second grade classroom!
At Battle Creek Elementary School, reading is considered an invaluable tool in education. As Robert W. Sweet, Jr. former President of The National Right to Read Foundation stated, "Reading is the gateway skill; without the abilities necessary to read, our children will be unable to go through the gate to all other areas of learning;  | | "I loved all the details you added!" |
for they all depend on this one skill."
Being able to read is the foundation on which a good education is built. Second grade is when we start putting what we've learned about how to read into practice.
By immersing the students in reading and studying author's craft, our students start to emulate and borrow the styles and techniques used by other writers and it helps them become great writers!
