Accelerated Reader (AR)

The library is a strong supporter of the Accelerated Reader Program.
Accelerated Reader books are clearly identified and students may print a list of books from the book catalog that are available at their reading level. Computers are also available for students to take the AR tests.

Reading is Fundamental (RIF)

This is Battle Creeks second year of participation in the RIF program.
Reading is Fundamental, Inc. is the nation's oldest and largest non-profit children's literacy organization. Its purpose is to help young people discover the joy and acquire the habit of reading.  RIF supports literacy development by providing free books for children to choose and keep. Each year students choose three books.

Book Fairs

Each year Battle Creek has two book fairs, one during fall conferences and one during spring conferences. Traditionally the spring fair is a “buy one book, get one book free” fair.

February is “I Love To Read” Month

February is “I Love To Read” month in Minnesota. As a way to encourage and reward our students for reading outside of school, Battle Creek Elementary School students have a chance to win new books. By filling in a coupon for every twenty minutes students read outside of class, they enter a drawing for free books.
