About Battle Creek Elementary
Welcome to Battle Creek!
Battle Creek Elementary students learn to be successful in school and in life through our focus on STEAM: Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics. Our unique location, next to the trails and ponds of Battle Creek Regional Park, enables students to experience the science of nature first-hand.
We partner with Science from Scientists, the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, and STARBASE to give students real-life experiences that grow their knowledge and skills. In addition to daily “STEAM time” in their classrooms, students also have opportunities in music and physical education.
Active parents collaborate with our staff to plan fun family events and raise money for additional resources and field trips. Battle Creek Elementary is a vibrant community of curious, engaged students learning how to make the world a better place for everyone.
Setting
Battle Creek Elementary is located next to Battle Creek Park. The park contains woods, grassy areas and wetlands.
Students have the opportunity to examine the ecosystems, observe wildlife, examine plant life, and explore the area on foot and on cross country skis. The importance of developing problem solving and decision making skills in determining human actions is stressed.
Climate
Battle Creek provides a safe, supportive, learning environment in which all children are valued and can reach their full potential. Students are expected to take responsibility for their learning behavior as outlined in the St. Paul School Rights and Responsibilities Handbook. Student's achievements are recognized within the classroom and at monthly award assemblies.
Staff
The staff of Battle Creek is well prepared to fulfill its mission. More than 75 percent of the teachers hold advanced degrees. Every faculty member is fully licensed by the state of Minnesota. In addition, the faculty includes teachers who have earned National Board of Teaching Certification.
