Outdoor Learning

Classroom teachers as well as specialist teachers try to bring their classrooms outdoors as much as possible to integreate our lessons with nature! This might look like:
  • a read aloud lesson under one of our trees
  • bringing writing materials outside to observe changes in the seasons
  • class hikes / nature walks
  • making arrays with pinecones
  • searching for animal habitats
  • morning meetings in our outdoor classroom

Applying our knowledge of arrays outside with leaves

A young woman in a light-colored jacket is sitting on a bench, examining a collection of fallen leaves on a table in front of her, while another person is visible in the background.

We learned all of the steps to plant a tree thanks to Great River Greening!

A group of people, some wearing safety vests, are gathered around a hole in the ground, working together to plant something.

Every month, we have a portion of the day designated to "drop everything and get outside!"

Do you have all of your winter gear?

Winter clothing checklist

We ask that all students are dressed for going outside every day. In the winter, that includes jackets, snowpants, boots, hats, and mittens. If any families are in need of winter gear, please reach out to your child's teacher, our school nurse, or our social worker. We appreciate your support helping us get our students outdoors as much as possible!

Planting tulips outside and predicting when they will emerge

A young person with braided hair is sitting on the ground in front of a brick building, smiling and surrounded by plants and dirt.
